John Brennan’s lawyer says prosecutors served a subpoena last Thursday: appear Oct. 15 before a Fort Pierce, Fla., grand jury. Theory under review: officials who probed Trump over a decade conspired to deny him civil rights.

A prosecutor told counsel Brennan is a “subject” of that case, not currently a target of it. He remains a target of a separate D.C. probe over 2023 testimony. He denies lying.

Same day: Joe diGenova resigned from the informal “grand conspiracy” inquiry. Brennan is suing to preserve records for a possible vindictive-prosecution defense. No indictment announced.

Gavin Newsom told CNN’s Jake Tapper in Montana: “I wouldn’t run if she ran.” Pressed: “Of course not. Why would I? I wouldn’t do that to her. I wouldn’t waste everyone’s time.”

He called a two-way primary “mutually assured destruction.” Harris has not announced.

He has also said all four kids would have to agree — two for, two against, he told PBS. Federal investigators are looking at family finances and travel billed through a nonprofit. He calls the probes a political hit. Neither candidate is locked in.

On WABC’s Cats Roundtable, Bill Clinton said he “authorized the CIA to try to take him out.” Capture alive was preferred. Stopping bin Laden was the priority.

Clinton: “I was scared, and I was mad because we tried to get him before, and the CIA at the last minute killed the plan that I think might well have succeeded.” Reason given: miss-risk to civilians. He said he did not second-guess the agency.

He was in Australia on 9/11; Chelsea was walking north from Lower Manhattan. He said he knew it was bin Laden when the second plane hit.

Vance at Joint Base Andrews: frontier AI companies “coming to the government and begging the government to regulate them” feels “a bit of a trojan horse.”

That followed Amodei, Altman, Hassabis, and Musk backing a slower “pace the frontier.” Vance said the White House wants to “regulate smartly,” not freeze the stack.

Trump on Truth Social: the only guardrail AI needs is a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT.” He also wrote there is a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and data centers — “WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS!”

Judge Carl Nichols — Trump appointee, D.D.C. — froze USPS’s August mail-ballot rule late Sunday. Plaintiffs include the DNC, Schumer, Jeffries, NAACP, and LULAC.

Nichols: “The key portions of the Rule exceed any conception of the outer bounds of these authorities.” He said skipping an injunction risked valid absentee ballots going uncounted in November.

The rule grew out of Trump’s March EO: upload voter lists and use approved barcodes or USPS will not mail the ballots. Judge Indira Talwani already blocked parts of it. DOJ asked the Supreme Court to lift her order. Nichols’s freeze is broader.
