Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 12, 2026

THE Digital Free Press ("TDFP", "we", "us" or "our") operates the website thedigitalfreepress.com (the "Site") and the TDFP web app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Site you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us. When you send a news tip or correction, fill out a contact or newsletter form, sign up as a site member, post in the TDFP forum, or leave a comment, we collect what you submit, such as your name, email address and the content of your message. Member and forum accounts are provided through Wix and are subject to Wix's own terms and privacy policy as well.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our service providers automatically record certain technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring pages, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits. This information is collected through cookies, pixels and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below).

Push notifications. If you choose to turn on alerts in the TDFP web app, our push provider, OneSignal, stores an anonymous device identifier (a push token) and any topic preferences you select (for example Breaking, Daily Briefing or Exclusives). We do not receive your name or contact details from this. You can turn alerts off at any time in your browser or device settings, or in the Alerts section of the app.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

- publish and deliver news, newsletters and alerts you asked for;

- respond to tips, corrections, questions and business inquiries;

- operate member and forum accounts and moderate the community;

- understand how the Site is used so we can improve it;

- show advertising and measure its performance;

- protect the Site, our readers and our rights, and comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. The Site uses cookies and similar technologies that are:

- Essential: required for the Site to work, including Wix's security and session cookies and member login.

- Analytics: used to understand traffic and reader behavior, including Wix Analytics and, where enabled, Google Analytics.

- Advertising: used by Google and other ad partners to show relevant ads and limit how often you see them (see "Advertising" below).

You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can delete cookies at any time. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Site works.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense and Third-Party Vendors)

We use Google AdSense and may use other third-party advertising vendors to display ads on the Site.

- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and to other websites.

- Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.

- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com or by reading how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at https://optout.aboutads.info.

We do not control the cookies set by these vendors and their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies.

5. Sharing of Information

We share information only:

- with service providers that help us run the Site, such as Wix (hosting, forms, members and forum), OneSignal (push alerts), analytics providers and advertising partners, who may use it only to provide their services;

- when required by law, subpoena or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety or property of TDFP, our readers or others;

- in connection with a merger, sale or transfer of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply;

- with your consent.

Tips and sources: We take source confidentiality seriously. If you ask us not to identify you when you send a tip, we will not publish your identity without your consent.

6. Your Choices and Opt-Out

- Email: every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, or email us at the address below.

- Push alerts: turn them off in your browser or device notification settings, or in the app.

- Cookies: adjust your browser settings or use the opt-out links in Section 4.

- Member account: you can edit or delete your member profile from your account settings, or ask us to delete it.

7. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the right to request deletion of that information, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond the advertising cookies described in Section 4, which you can opt out of using the links there. To make a request, email us at the address below with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

9. Data Security and Retention

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including those provided by Wix, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described above or as required by law.

10. Links to Other Sites

The Site links to other websites and social platforms, including our channels on X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, Rumble and others. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
