Supreme Court Won't Revive 9/11 Plea Deals, Keeping the Death Penalty Possible for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to revive plea deals that would have spared accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two co-defendants from the death penalty. The order leaves in place a ruling that then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin could throw out the agreements in 2024, two days after they were signed. A military judge has set the trial for June 2028.
