Justice Department Opens Civil Rights Investigation Into D.C. Jails Over Force, Medical Care, Sanitation and Food
The Justice Department has opened a federal civil rights investigation into D.C.'s jails. In a letter to Mayor Muriel Bowser, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon says investigators will examine whether the Department of Corrections fails to protect detainees from excessive force and fails to provide adequate medical care, sanitary conditions and nutrition, going back to 2021. DOJ says it has reached no conclusions.
