Georgia U.S. Senate Voter Guide: Ossoff and Collins on Health Care and Costs
Two candidates are on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Georgia on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026: Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins.
The Digital Free Press voter guide video compares the two side by side on health care and costs. Here is where each one stands, based on the video and reporting from Georgia news outlets.
Jon Ossoff (Democrat)
Ossoff was elected to the Senate in 2021 alongside Sen. Raphael Warnock and is seeking his first reelection. He previously interned for the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis and ran an investigative media production company, according to the Georgia Recorder. He is the only Democratic senator up for reelection this year in a state President Donald Trump won in 2024.
On health care, the video says Ossoff supports expanding Medicaid in Georgia and helped cap Medicare insulin costs at $35 a month. The Georgia Recorder reports that he supports Medicaid expansion and touts his role in passing the 2022 provision that capped insulin at $35 a month for people on Medicare; Warnock first sponsored the cap. Ossoff has sharply criticized Collins for supporting the budget law known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which cut Medicaid spending.
On costs and tariffs, the video says Ossoff blames tariffs and the Iran war for higher costs and backed a Senate vote to block the tariffs. The Recorder reports that he lists the war in Iran, Trump's import tariffs and the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies as Collins-backed policies that have raised costs for Georgians. His Senate office says he urged House leaders to take up S.J. Res. 88, a Senate-passed resolution that would end the national emergency behind Trump's April 2025 global tariffs. "Georgians deserve to know why someone who wants to serve them in the Senate voted over and over for these tariffs," he said at the Oct. 8 debate, WTOC reported.
Mike Collins (Republican)
Collins was first elected in 2022 to represent Georgia's 10th Congressional District in northeast Georgia. He is the son of the late U.S. Rep. Mac Collins and co-owns a family trucking business, according to the Georgia Recorder. He sponsored the Laken Riley Act, the first law Trump signed in his second term.
On health care, the video says Collins wants cheaper care and voted for the budget law that cut Medicaid spending. The Recorder reports that Collins touts a provision of that law creating a $218 million award for Georgia's rural hospitals, and he has promised to double that funding if elected. He calls for price transparency without hidden fees and for expanding Trump's "most favored nation" drug pricing policies. "It's no secret that our healthcare system in this country must be improved," he said at a July press conference.
On costs and tariffs, the video says Collins backs tariffs, tax cuts and fewer regulations as part of the Trump economic agenda. At the debate, Collins defended the tariffs, saying they are working, and blamed inflation on policies supported by former President Joe Biden and Ossoff, WTOC reported. He says he will help in the Senate by cutting regulations and taxes and pushing energy independence. "You do that by getting taxes lower; you keep more money," he said. His platform also calls for lowering housing costs by streamlining permitting.
