Nevada Governor Voter Guide: Lombardo, Aaron Ford and Danielle Ford on Abortion and Voter ID
Three candidates are on the ballot for governor of Nevada in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election: Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo, the incumbent; Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford; and Danielle Ford, a nonpartisan candidate who serves on the Nevada State Board of Education. The two Fords are not related.
The Digital Free Press voter guide video for this race compares where the three stand on two issues voters will also see on their ballots this year: abortion and voter ID. Question 6 would put abortion rights in the Nevada Constitution, and Question 7 would add a photo ID requirement to vote. Both passed in 2024 and must pass a second time before they take effect. Here is where each candidate stands, based on the video and the candidates' own statements.
Joe Lombardo (Republican)
On abortion, the video notes that Lombardo personally supports a 15-week cutoff but says abortion rights are already in state law and should be left to Nevada voters. The Nevada Independent reported that his campaign did not give a direct yes or no when asked whether abortion rights through 24 weeks should be added to the state constitution.
On voter ID, Lombardo supports requiring a photo ID to vote. According to the video and The Nevada Independent, he publicly and financially backed the 2024 voter ID ballot question after legislative Democrats declined to take up voter ID in the 2023 session. Lombardo has said he "made a promise to voters that if the Legislature would not support the will of the people, I would take the vote directly to them," according to The Nevada Independent.
Aaron Ford (Democrat)
On abortion, the video says Aaron Ford supports enshrining abortion rights through 24 weeks in the Nevada Constitution. He has said that as governor he would "ensure that Nevada itself remains a firewall, not just in name, but in practice," adding that "means protecting abortion access, safeguarding IVF, keeping politicians out of private medical decisions," according to The Nevada Independent.
On voter ID, Aaron Ford opposes a photo ID requirement. The video and The Nevada Independent both report that he has said there is not enough evidence of voter fraud in Nevada to justify a new requirement, and that there would have to be a compelling reason to add ID rules to the voting process.
Danielle Ford (Nonpartisan)
Danielle Ford was elected to the Nevada State Board of Education in 2024 and earlier served one term as a Clark County School District trustee after winning election in 2018. She is running without a party affiliation.
On abortion, the video says she supports Nevada's current law protecting abortion access through 24 weeks, with later care when medically necessary. Her campaign platform says she backs that framework, "with later care available when a doctor determines it is medically necessary to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient."
On voter ID, the video says she would follow whatever voter ID law is in place but does not think the current proposals are done correctly yet. In an interview with FOX5 Las Vegas, she said, "If we had enough actual data that this was a problem that was actually influencing elections, I think that that's something to explore. However, we need to support people with all the things to be able to get that ID." She told the station that replacing her own stolen documents cost about $100 across four agencies.
