New Pentagon UFO Files Detail FBI Agents' Sighting of a Silent Black Triangle
FBI agents reported seeing a black triangular object hover silently above a mountain ridge before suddenly accelerating into a canyon, according to newly released Department of War records on unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, Fox News Digital reported.
What the FBI Agents Reported
An FBI report on the 2026 sighting describes a dark, nonreflective triangular object resembling a drone, with an estimated wingspan of 9 to 15 feet and no visible exhaust or conventional propulsion system, according to Fox News Digital. The agents said the object rose vertically above a ridgeline and then sped into a canyon without making a sound.
A separate report from the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, known as AARO, describes a matte-black object that climbed about 200 to 300 feet above the ridgeline, hovered for roughly 20 seconds and then disappeared into a canyon within two to three seconds, Fox News Digital reported. The agents also said handheld thermal equipment showed an even heat signature across the object, without the hot spots usually tied to engines.
The two reports differ on how long the encounter lasted. The FBI described a sighting of about three seconds, while AARO described about 10 seconds of climbing, 20 seconds of hovering and two to three seconds of rapid flight, according to Fox News Digital. The Pentagon report notes that the object's speed was estimated by the witnesses, not measured by instruments.
Neither report identifies the object or where it came from, Fox News Digital reported. It is not confirmed whether an image released with the FBI report is a photograph or a reconstruction.

What Else Is in the UFO Files
The release also includes an Air Force intelligence report dated Jan. 19, 1957, about an unidentified radar contact picked up by a B-52 bomber flying at about 39,000 feet near Saudi Arabia. The contact stayed on radar for five to seven minutes before disappearing as the bomber turned, and investigators noted the turn may explain why it vanished, according to Fox News Digital.
Other records describe 1950s sightings near California's Santa Catalina Island, including a bright object the Air Force classified as a "probable meteor," Fox News Digital reported.
The files also include a 60-page, 2010 investigation by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies at a Utah ranch where residents reported strange creatures and balls of light. Lab tests found hair samples collected there came from ordinary animals, including domestic dogs and a raccoon, and the report did not establish that the creatures existed, according to Fox News Digital.
