Speaker Johnson Says Midterm Polls Showing Democrats Ahead Are 'Wrong' and 'Based on Faulty Analysis'

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Sunday that polls showing Democrats with an edge in the Nov. 3 midterm elections are wrong, telling "Fox News Sunday" host Shannon Bream that they are "based on faulty analysis."

Johnson made the comments on Oct. 25, the third anniversary of his election as speaker in 2023, with just over a week left before Election Day.

The Forecast Speaker Johnson Disputed

Bream cited the latest Fox News power rankings, which put 219 House seats in the Democratic column, 198 in the Republican column and 18 as toss-ups, according to a Breitbart transcript of the interview. She said the forecast had Democrats winning 237 seats on a strong night for them and 219 on a good night for Republicans, leaving the GOP in the minority either way.

What Johnson Said About the Polls

"Those polls are wrong. They're based on faulty analysis," Johnson said. "Look, in the last week, Shannon, you've had two polling organizations nationwide be exposed for completely fraudulent numbers and the more traditional researchers and poll organizations are acknowledging that they've been under-sampling Republicans." Johnson did not name the two polling organizations in the remarks quoted.

"Republicans are no longer responding to polls," Johnson said.

On the Road in Swing Districts

Johnson said he had been to 21 states and 39 districts in the past three weeks, focusing on swing districts, "the places where we're going to flip blue seats to red," and that his events were drawing hundreds of people. "It's excitement level like 2024," he said.

"When I'm in these big arenas, Shannon, I ask for hands. Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months. They'll be like three hands among 300 people," Johnson said. "I'm telling you, these polls are off, all of them, because they're using faulty analysis."

Asked how much pressure he feels trying to hold the House majority, Johnson said, "It's not an easy job, but I never feel the pressure of that. I know we are doing the right thing for the right reason," according to The Gateway Pundit's account of the interview.

Fox News said Johnson also discussed the Republican midterm strategy and the Trump administration's policy on Russia in the interview.
