Trump Signs Melania-Led Women's Health Order, Revokes Biden Order and Puts Wiles and RFK Jr. in Charge of New Task Force
President Trump on Monday signed an executive order, led by first lady Melania Trump, that creates a White House Women's Health Task Force and orders a new Women's Health Division at the National Institutes of Health.
The order names the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the White House chief of staff as co-chairs of the task force. Those posts are held by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Susie Wiles, the New York Post reported. Wiles recently announced that she is free from breast cancer, the Post reported.
"This is a transformative moment for women in America. Beginning today, we will change the reality of women's health," the first lady said at a Rose Garden ceremony, according to the Post. The president and first lady signed the order together.
Biden Orders Revoked
The order also revokes two actions from the Biden administration: Executive Order 14120 of March 18, 2024, "Advancing Women's Health Research and Innovation," and a November 13, 2023, presidential memorandum that set up the White House Initiative on Women's Health Research.
New NIH Women's Health Division
Under the new order, NIH must set up the Women's Health Division within 90 days. The order lists conditions it says need more research, including heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, endometriosis, infertility and menopause. It also tells the division to make grant recipients follow NIH's policy that research must "account for sex as a biological variable."
Who Sits on the Task Force
The task force also includes the secretary of Veterans Affairs, the EPA administrator, the FDA commissioner and the heads of the CDC, NIH and Medicare and Medicaid. The Post reported its first meeting was set for Monday afternoon in the Roosevelt Room.
