Amazon will hire more than 300,000 workers across the United States for the holiday season, the company announced Tuesday, and will extend day-one health coverage to many of its seasonal employees starting next year.

The jobs include seasonal, part-time and full-time roles across Amazon's U.S. operations network, which includes its warehouses and delivery stations, according to the company. New openings will be posted weekly from October through December, Fox Business reported.

The hiring push marks Amazon's first increase in holiday recruitment in three years as it prepares for a jump in orders, according to Reuters, as cited by Fox Business.

What Amazon Is Offering

Seasonal employees will earn an average of $20 an hour, the company said. Full-time operations employees start at a minimum of $20 an hour, and average hourly pay across Amazon's operations workforce is nearly $24, according to the announcement. Amazon says that when benefits are included, average total compensation for full-time employees tops $32 an hour.

The company said the hiring follows its recent announcement of more than $1.5 billion in higher pay for its U.S. operations workforce. Amazon also pointed to an uncapped 10% employee discount on eligible groceries and everyday essentials online, and a 20% discount in Whole Foods Market stores, which it rolled out earlier this month.

Health Coverage From Day One

Starting Jan. 1, 2027, seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week will be eligible for health coverage beginning on their first day on the job, Amazon said. Plans will start at $5 a week with $5 copays, according to the company.

Seasonal workers hired before Jan. 1 who meet the requirements will get access to the coverage when the new benefit takes effect, Fox Business reported. Amazon has offered day-one health coverage to regular full-time employees for several years, the company said.

"It's rare for companies in our industry to offer healthcare starting on the first day on the job," J. Ofori Agboka, Amazon's vice president of People Experience and Technology, wrote in the announcement.

A Bigger Holiday Push

Amazon said seasonal jobs can lead to longer careers, noting that some seasonal hires go on to become trainers and managers. It cited its Career Choice program, which offers prepaid tuition of up to $5,250 a year, along with a 401(k) with a company match and a free Prime membership for eligible employees.

"Our employees are at the heart of everything we do," the company said, according to Fox Business. "These investments reflect our continued commitment to making Amazon a place where people can earn, learn, and create opportunities for themselves and their families."
