Trump Blasts Judge in Charlie Kirk Murder Case as Hearing Ends Without a Trial Date for Tyler Robinson
President Donald Trump on Friday attacked the Utah judge overseeing the murder case against Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, hours before a hearing that ended without a trial date, according to Fox News Digital.
"The judge in the Charlie Kirk case is doing a terrible job! This case should be tried within a month, not three years — and it should be over with!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also claimed the judge "is desecrating the memory of the Great Charlie Kirk" and wrote, "JUSTICE FOR CHARLIE!"
Trump's post came after Robinson's defense team proposed a tentative trial start in the third quarter of 2029, Fox News Digital reported.
No Trial Date for Tyler Robinson Yet
At the roughly three-hour hearing in Provo, 4th District Judge Tony Graf Jr. said he had planned to set a trial date at the end of the hearing but needed more time after questioning both sides about their timelines and other trial commitments, according to Fox News Digital. Graf set the next hearing for Monday, Nov. 9, when he said he would read his ruling.
Utah County prosecutors floated Jan. 31, 2028, as their preferred trial date but said they could be ready in October 2027, the outlet reported. Robinson, 23, is charged with aggravated murder and six other counts in the Sept. 10, 2025, shooting of the Turning Point USA founder at Utah Valley University, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

What the Defense and the Kirk Family Argued
Defense attorney Staci Visser told the court there are more than 31,000 pieces of discovery and "8 million" artifacts of digital evidence, and called the state's proposed January 2028 date "not practical," according to Fox News Digital. In a filing, the defense argued a firm date now would create "false precision" in a capital case where, it said, "death is different."
"The reality is rushing to trial does not lead to closure. It does not lead to finality. It leads to mistakes," defense attorney Richard Novak said.
Jeffrey Neiman, an attorney for Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, urged the judge to move faster. "Justice delayed this long stops being justice for the Kirk family," he said. "Your honor, if you set it, it will happen. Set it, please." Under Utah's constitution, victims and their representatives have a right to a speedy resolution of their case, Fox News Digital reported.
