Vice President JD Vance said “of course there’s a chance” he will not run for president in 2028, telling a Michigan town hall that his family will weigh heavily in the decision, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Vance, widely seen as an early frontrunner for the 2028 Republican nomination, was asked whether there was a chance he would sit out the race.

“Of course there’s a chance,” Vance said. “We’ve got four little kids, my wife has never loved politics. She loves public service.”

“I think you know you can do a lot of good in this job, and I’ve tried to do as much good as possible,” he added, according to the Post.

JD VANCE: ‘I’M A PROCRASTINATOR’

Vance said he has not made up his mind and described himself as a “procrastinator” when it comes to major decisions.

“The way that I think about life, big life decisions — my wife will tell you this: I’m a procrastinator. I hate thinking about it,” Vance said, according to the Post. The Post reported that Vance indicated he plans to give the question serious thought after the November midterm elections.

The town hall was pre-recorded and aired Saturday night, Fox News reported. Vance also took questions on gas prices, corruption allegations, immigration and the war with Iran.

Asked whether he had seen evidence of corruption inside the administration, Vance said: “Do I see evidence of corruption from the president of the United States, from the administration? No.” He said he would comply with congressional subpoenas if Democrats win control of Congress in January: “Of course, of course I will. Look, we follow the law. I follow the law,” according to Fox News.

On immigration, Vance said, “To the extent that my rhetoric has been imperfect here, that’s on me,” while defending his criticism of companies that use the H-1B visa program, Fox News reported.

‘WHOEVER THE PRESIDENT ENDORSES’

In a separate interview with Sean Spicer reported Saturday by the Daily Wire, Vance said President Trump’s endorsement will effectively decide the Republican primary.

“Whoever the president endorses will ultimately win the Republican primary,” Vance said. “While Donald Trump will ultimately decide who is going to be the Republican nominee, you have a general election; 330 million Americans are going to decide who the president of the United States is.”

He also told Spicer that his family will be a major consideration: “You have to make sure that you could do this in a way that actually was good for the kids,” according to the Daily Wire.

WHERE THE EARLY POLLING STANDS

Trump has described Vance as his “most likely” Republican successor, the Post reported. The RealClear Polling average gives Vance 39% support in the Republican primary, a 15-point lead over Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with Donald Trump Jr. third at 11%, according to the Post.

Vance has not announced whether he will run.
